Up and down, up and down...

A lot has happened since I last wrote. My 14 miles was great, but the following week, last week, things started to go wrong. My back was sore, my leg was sore. I was beginning to feel really miserable, and for the first time I began to doubt, seriously, whether I could do this.

My back was so painful that I began to imagine collapsed discs, crushed vertebrae, tumours... Yes, I am, it seems, a hypochondriac...

So I stretched and took anti-inflammatories. I tried my 3 mile run and got to 2.4. I tried my 7 mile run and got to 5. Then I decided to rest. So I did, until Sunday, yesterday, when my 10 miler was due. It was with great trepidation that I set out. I took it very slowly to start with and speeded up as I felt more comfortable. It was a gorgeously sunny day and the warmth helped, I'm sure.

Amazingly, everything felt good - no sharp pains, no twinges even. I did the 10 miles and finished feeling good. I did it in 2 hours 8 minutes which was fine by me. In fact I felt so well that I had a shower and lunch then went and played footie with my boys in the afternoon.

I think that perhaps I did not, or have not been, stretching well enough after the runs. This has sent me warning bells and I am determined to stretch well. I would be so pissed off to be sidelined purely because I didn't stretch enough. So, hopefully I am back on course, with a long 15 miler next weekend to look forward to. Blimey - that's a long way. Still, think positive girl - I can do it, I want to do it and I will do it !!
